Our Oklahoma Trip (July 11 - 25, 2008)
We had such a wonderful time in Oklahoma. My sister, Lauri, was going home to visit and told my sister, Carrie, that she should try and come. Well, Carrie called me and I was able to find some cheap tickets, so we were able to go to. I know we all missed our other sister, Rikki, but she lives in France, so it would be really expensive for her to come too. It was so great to see my sisters again and I know that Ty had a great time with all of his cousins. They played together all day long and for the most part they played well together. We went to the country club pool everyday and the kids loved the kiddie pool there. I remember so many wonderful summers that were spent at that pool. As kids, we were there everyday for most of the day. It was fun to take my children there to swim.
Grammy and Poppy also had a little swimming pool and the hot tub that the kids played in before we went to the big pool. They had so much fun splashing each other and sliding down the little slide. They also fixed up the little red tractor we had as kids and Ty loved that thing. I think they all loved it because when one would get off it was a race to see who could get on it.
Grammy also gave 4-wheeler rides to all the kids. They hooked up the trailer and all the kids got in the back and went for a wild ride. A few times we had to tell Grammy to slow down because us mothers were afraid our little ones would fly out when they hit a bump. They all loved it and it was fun to see all their blond heads bobbing up and down.
Another highlight was the trampoline. To bad for those mosquitos...they ate us alive so we didn't like to be out by the trampoline and swing for too long. We had 8 kids there and 6 were under the age of 3! It was a CRAZY and NOISY house, but I think it was sooooo worth it. Feeding time ( I love the way that sounds) was absolutely CRAZY. All the kids were so hungry that there was a lot of crying and screaming involved. Bedtime was WONDERFUL...finally some peace and quiet...did I mention relaxation too?
It was also great because we hired a babysitter a few times so we could hang out with our parents or just as sisters. We went and saw the movie Mama Mia and had a great time with that. I couldn't stop singing the song for a couple days. Thanks dad for coming along with all us girls to such a "chick flick"! Another highlight was getting our favorite double doozie cookies! We all looked forward to going to the mall and getting a cookie and chatting about life. Carrie and I had a few places we wanted to hit before we left....Braums and Sonic. We enjoyed our Braums, but were a little disappointed in the Sonic. I think it is so funny the things you miss when you move away. Us western states people don't have Braums and really miss it and the Sonic's aren't near as good as the ones back home.
What a great time it was to be back home with my sisters. I already miss them so much and can't wait to get together again.
Oh, I must write about my trip home. The plane ride out to Oklahoma was a piece of cake, but the ride home is a totally different story. It was going so well, we said goodbye to my mom who was able to come to the gate with us to help me with the kids. We were on the plane and the seat we were suppose to be in Ty's carseat wouldn't fit because the arm rest didn't come up. I requested the first seat because I knew Ty would kick the back of the seat if someone was in front of us. So now we were in the second row and there was a couple in front of us. Ty starts kicking the seat and the couple ask why we couldn't sit in those seats. The flight attendant tells them the carseat wouldn't fit and the couple replies, " so we have to sit here and have him kick the back of our seat?" At this point I am feeling soooo bad. I apologize and try to hold Ty's legs. Meanwhile, Tag decides to start crying and it is seriously 100 degrees on the plane. I sweating like crazy and it doesn't help that I am trying to hold Ty's legs down and hold Tag at the same time. We sat on the plane for about 40 minutes and by the end of it I was in tears. The lady in front of Ty's seat turned around and said I have 2 kids of my own just don't worry about it. When she said that the tears just came and I apologized and thanked her at the same time. All the passengers on the plane are really getting mad at this point because of the heat. Well, to make matters worse, Ty starts crying, Tag starts crying, and I am crying. I am sure we looked like a CRAZY family. I was drenched with sweat, Ty had sweat coming down his forehead and Tag was hot too. The flight attendant was trying to fan us because she was worried about Tag being so hot. Well, they finally let us off the plane because it was going to be another 20 to 30 min. before the plane was fixed. Everyone was so kind when they got off, asking if I needed any help. I was still in tears and felt like a complete idiot, so I declined there help. We were the last ones off the plane and Ty ran around until we were able to get back on the plane. I am just so glad that when we got on the plane we were able to get up in the air and have some air conditioning. We left 2 hours late, so Josh was not happy that he had to wait at the airport for 3 hours. It was a very long day and I don't plan on flying by myself for a very long time.

oh my wendy, i'm glad you had a great time in oklahoma...but i feel so bad for you about the whole flight thing. jared and i have a similar story, except atleast i had jared there for support...you were all by yourself!!! i so don't blame you for crying, i would have too. what a trooper. I love all the pics.
It sounds like you had such a great time! I bet it's so nice to have sisters you are so close with. I think it's smart you hired a babysitter too to get some adult time.
Your trip home sounded so hard and frustrating. I'm glad people were finally being nice and supportive towards you. Being a mom/parent is such an important and yet difficult job...I wish people were universally more understanding and appreciative. I think you are amazing for accomplishing the flight alone with two kids! But, I hope you don't have to do it again for a while! :-)
Another trip to Oklahoma with no phone call! I'm upset! :)
