Since Ty was 1 years old, he has had a lot of strep throat and then the left side of his face started swelling off and on. When this would happen, he would be in a lot of pain, have a fever, and didn't want to eat. We went to several doctors to try and figure it out, but no one really knew what was going on. Now he is 4 1/2 and we finally got things taken care of. We saw an ENT and had to have Ty get a CatScan...this was not a fun experience! He did not want to have the IV put in, and he certainly did not want to go inside the machine! I had to bribe him with a DS just to get him to do the CatScan! Well, they still didn't really see anything, but everything was really swollen, so they decided to take his tonsils out!
Ty was not happy with his mom and dad for making him get his tonsils out. He had been poked so many times that he was sure it was going to hurt! We reassured him that he would be asleep through the whole thing, but he was still was so upset with us and let us know it! On February 24, 2011 we got to the surgery center he was fine, but was mad that he couldn't eat or drink anything. When we got back to the bed and had to get him changed, he FREAKED OUT!! He was screaming at us and trying to kick and hit us! We tried to be understanding, but then when he started to kick and hit, dad had to lay the law down! We tried to make him laugh with the silly hat, but as you can tell from the pictures, he was still so mad! Then, this really great nurse came in and got his pulse, blood pressure, and temperature and he had fun looking at the machine and realized it didn't hurt! From that point on, he was a changed little boy and was so brave when they took him back! The nurses were amazed at how well he did even after he woke up from the surgery. He started to freak out at the IV in his hand, but the nurse let him know it was just "red paint" on his hand from where they cleaned it. He was totally okay with it after she told him it was only "paint"! He was so sleepy after he woke up that he slept most of the way home. He didn't throw up at all until after he ate a little bit and then he gracefully threw up in the car! We didn't even know what was happening until it was over because he was so calm about it! When we got back to Grandma and Grandpa's house, he was happy and really did great! The next day all he wanted to do was play and really didn't complain about the pain. He did a lot better than we thought he would and we were so proud of him.
It has been two weeks now and he is all better and doing great! I think he feels pretty cool because he got his tonsils out!
Josh took the boys to the mountain with him and they had a great time playing and sliding down on their bottoms! They LOVE hanging out with their dad and nothing could make me happier!!
